Hi family! Wow, I felt like a celebrity at the meeting yesterday. I had 7 letters and a package for me. One letter from mom, one from Lila and one from Grandma. Thank you! I am so blessed to have a family that cares about me! So....James has girls on speed dial now huh? That's why I haven't heard from him since school started. ;-) He'd better not get serious with anyone before his mission though. Trust me, it's NOT worth it! Mom and Dad I'm sure you've been telling him the same thing so I'm not worried. I love you all so much! Sorry I don't have much time today.
Hi everybody! Things are going great! Karly (10) and Amanda (11) were baptized on Sunday. It was a very sweet experience. Their 13 year old brother who was baptized a month ago gave his first talk at their baptism and the primary children sang a musical number. The Spirit was there and it went really well. That family was referred to us by a member.
We had another great experience last night. A member told us to go visit one of her friends, Johanna. We had planned to on Sunday but we were really busy with the baptism and didn't get to it. Then last night we felt like we should go over even though it was later than we normally like to stop by people that don't really know us already. But we both felt good about it so we went. Her apartment looked dark from the street but we went up to the door anyway. When she answered the door she invited us right in. We ended up having a great lesson and learning a lot about her. She has had a hard life but she really wants to choose the right path. She accepted an invitation to follow the example of our savior Jesus Christ and be baptized on October 24th. She is very excited to learn and to do the right thing.
I found a quote this morning in Preach My Gospel by Dallin H. Oaks: "We do not preach and teach in order to 'bring people into the church' or to increase the membership of the Church. We do not preach and teach just to persuade people to live better lives...We invite all to come unto Christ by repentance and baptism and confirmation in order to open the doors of the celestial kingdom to the sons and daughters of God. No one else can do this." Nothing in the mission is about numbers even though we do keep records. It is about inviting people to come back to their Heavenly Father and bring their families with them. I know the Church is true and salvation does come only by following Christ's example.
Hope everyone has an amazing week! Thank you to all those who took time to write me. I really appreciate it!
Hermana Evans
