August 16, 2010

Hi family!  How are you? I got the package! Thank you SOOOOOO much!  I love the cd's and hair stuff. I've listened to the Joseph Smith one so many times this week, as I'm exercising.  James, I loved your letter!  Only you would find such an instrument as an electric kazoo.  Who knew? Lila and Mom I got your letters too.  I LOVE hearing from all of you and I'm so glad to hear everything that's going on.  Michael, you'd better keep practicing your basketball even though you're on break for now.  You and I have a match when I get back! :-) Dad, any interesting patients lately?  I miss asking you that.  Oh, I made pancakes again but the big one at the end folded over.  I didn't toss it high enough. :-(

Hi everybody!
So this week has been kind of up and down. My companion had her wisdom teeth removed.  2 of them, one on each side. She had really strong pain medication so she wasn't really herself.  But we pulled through ok.  The teeth are still hurting so we're going back to the dentist today to see what we can do about it.  Poor Sister!  She's never had to have anything done on her teeth and now there's this.  The day she had her wisdom teeth out, we came back and went on a split.  She stayed at a member's house and I went to our appointments with another sister in the ward who served a mission too.  It was really fun.  We found 2 new investigators and scheduled 2 church tours and had cheesecake for dinner.  Good day.
We got to go to this one little shop this week that sold juices and shakes and all manner of Mexican fruity goodness.  I tried carrot-orange juice.  It was pretty good.  It felt very healthy too.
We had a zone activity this week and I learned another new game: Gator ball.  At least, it was new to me.  It's set up like indoor soccer.  You can run with the ball in your hands until someone tags you at which point the game becomes soccer.  You can pick the ball up with your hands only if you catch it off a kick (you can't kick it to yourself).  You get one point for throwing the ball into the goal, two points for kicking it in, and three points for head-butting it in.  It was so much fun!
We had zone conference this week (the day after my companion's wisdom teeth) but it was great.  They have been having zone conferences every month but they're switching to every 3 months now with more little meetings in between.  They talked a lot about helping people find the light of the gospel and how we basically can help them teach themselves by asking questions.  It's harder when you're teaching to make it less of a presentation because we do talk about the same basic principles to everyone.  But the gospel is really individual and everyone has their own concerns and challenges.  Our goal is to teach people not lessons.  We're bringing the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ to people who need it, not seeing how many times we can quote Moroni 10 to people.
When you set a goal, an important part of it is to buy into it yourself.  If you don't think you can do it, why set the goal?  It's just a number if you're not willing to give it your all.
We're teaching a lady named Angela who lives with a member.  She's really sweet and seems like she wants to learn.  She came to church once before we even started teaching her.
I know that the church is true.  I know that through Joseph Smith the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth along with the power to perform sacred ordinances with our Heavenly Father.  I know that He is always there for us.  When you don't feel like you can talk to anyone, get down on your knees and start talking.  Our Heavenly Father loves us and He is always there for us.
I love being a missionary.  I love everything that comes with this work. I love teaching, I love talking to people, I love making mistakes and knowing I can learn from them.  Onward!
