May 24, 2010

Hi family!!!!! I LOVE hearing about life at home.  Thanks for keeping me updated.  You know my horrible memory.  It's hard enough to remember special dates and events even when I'm at home.  On a mission I'm hopeless.  I'm trying to remember lesson plans and commitments and goals and baptismal dates (we have two now!).  I am sad that I miss all of these important events. I missed Lila's first time in the temple and all her soccer games.  I'm missing James' graduation and first year at BYU.  I missed Brian's graduation.  I'll miss Michael growing but I'm sure I'll notice it when I get home :-). Then all the orchestra concerts and everything.  It's hard because I'm doing the right thing, I know, but in the eternal run it won't matter all that much.  I hope you know my heart is still with my family.

Hi everybody!  What a week!  It's almost time for transfers again!  (Noooooooooooo!)  Time flies when you're having fun.  It's been freezing the last few days!  I've needed my jacket.  They say at this time it's usually over 100 degrees here.  We who are out all day every day are blessed.
We had exchanges this week. (where we switch companions for just a day)  This is the second time I've been in the same district as my MTC companion.  That's been nice.
We set a baptismal date this week with Nancy.  She was our surprise investigator.  Her mother-in-law told us she is really negative about religion but all the times we've met with her, she's amazing.  She's come to church twice (even though she works graveyard shifts at Wal-Mart) and now is preparing to follow the example of Jesus Christ by being baptized by someone holding the priesthood authority of God on June 19th.  When we invited her to be baptized on that day she smiled and said "What a day to pick! That's the day after my birthday!"
We also contacted a former investigator this week.  We talked about the plan of salvation and she said she had just been talking with her husband about what he thinks happens after we die.  She's coming on a church tour this week.
We have a new investigator named Bonnie. She just turned 95.  Apparently she's already read the Book of Mormon all the way through and has a really good feeling about it.  It's a lot of fun to teach her.  She only hears you if you're speaking very loudly about a foot away from her ear. :-)  Her birthday was on Mother's day so when we visited her this last time we sang Happy Birthday.  She was so happy, she jumped up (as much as a 95-year old can) and embraced us.  She told us we're going to live to be old too because she gave us a hug.
One of our investigators proposed to her boyfriend and he said yes!  We had taught her the law of chastity and explained that they needed to be married for her to be baptized. We are praying that this works out.
Moroni 7:33-  If we are faithful we can do everything according to God's will.  We won't be able to fly or teleport unless it is God's will, no matter how much faith we have. The key is having your heart in the right place so your desires and requests are according to God's will.
Keep Smiling and counting your blessings!
